This vintage ringis set with a round opal ring surrounded by garnets. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth.
Photos just don't do this opal justice, as there is a play of colour that is exhibited by this ring. And this ring is further highligted by the red garnet stones surrounding the opal like an embrace.
The ring is hallmarked for metal purity and maker's mark. On the inside of the shank it is hallmarked L.O. (unintengiable) / 9 / .375 / Anchor / R
I have not found out any information on the manufacturer, however the rest of the hallmarks tell a story. The 9 and the .375 indicate that the ring is made out of 9K yellow gold.
The anchor indicates that the ring was made and assayed in Birmingham, England. And the letter R indicates that this was done in 1941.
The centre stone is a natural white opal and it measures 6mm round.
Surrounding the opal are 8 bright red garnets. Each garnet measures 3mm round and total garnet weight is estimated to weight 1.6 cts total.
All gemstones are natural.
