Art Deco Engagement Ring with Old European Cut Diamond / Natural Diamond

This beautiful Art Deco ring is set with a natural earth mined diamond. The ring has wonderful design elements using two-tone gold and is made out of 14K white gold, and 18K yellow gold. The two-tone (mixed gold karat) is typical of the 1920s - 1930s.

The star of this ring is the Old European Cut diamond with the visible culets which is a distinguishable feature of these diamonds cuts.

An Old European Cut (OEC) is an antique diamond shape popular from the late 1800s to the 1930s. As the precursor to modern round brilliants, Old European Cut diamonds are highly desirable for their unique hand-cut character, chunky facets, and "inner fire" designed to sparkle brilliantly in candlelight. Hand-cut diamonds feature broad facets, high crowns, and large, visible culets (the bottom point of the diamond). This produces a romantic, warm glow optimized for candlelight and early electric lighting.

The diamond measures 3mm round and is estimated to weigh 0.15 cts total carat weight. The diamond looks much larger than it really is, as it is set in an illusion setting where the white gold setting makes the diamond look larger. 

The diamond is set securely in a flower prong setting, where each prong is set beside a forget-me-not flower. What a romantic design.

The shoulders of the ring have a marquise shape made out of white gold that captures the light and reflects the geometric designs of the Art Deco period.
