Emeralds are highly desired and widely used in jewelry due to their unparalleled, deep green colour, rich historical significance, and status as a rare, precious stone. Unlike diamonds, which are prized for flawlessness, emeralds are rarely found without internal inclusions, known as jardin (French for "garden"). These inclusions are considered unique, mossy-like natural fingerprints that confirm authenticity and add character.

This ring is a genuine Art Deco ring from the 1930s. It is made out of platinum. Platinum saw extensive use during the 1930s primarily because it was the favored, high-end metal for Art Deco jewelry design, prized for its strength, durability, and neutral color that perfectly complemented diamonds. Its popularity was fueled by the ability to create delicate, intricate, and secure jewelry settings, which matched the era's aesthetic, before it was declared a strategic war material in the early 1940s.

This ring contains a natural green emerald measuring 6mm x 4mm and is estimated to weigh 0.60 cts. On the shoulders are two natural earth mined diamonds that are estimated to weigh 0.04 cts. The cut of the diamonds are single cut. Single-cut diamonds (featuring 17-18 facets) were popular in the 1930s primarily as accent stones in intricate Art Deco, pavé, or milgrain jewelry, prized for their ability to add subtle, charming sparkle. They were preferred for small stones because they were less vulnerable to chipping compared to more complex cuts.

Emeralds rank 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, making them relatively hard and durable for everyday jewelry. Because emerald crystals are often brittle, they are often cut in a specific rectangular or square step-cut—the "emerald cut"—which minimizes pressure on the corners and maximizes the stone's colour and brilliance.

There is some abrasion on the stone but given that it is over 100 years old, it is in excellent condition for it's age.

The ring is not hallmarked on the inside of the shank, but it tests as platinum.
