This vintage ring is so pretty and romantic with its heart embellishments. The ring is set with a diamond that is fiery and lively.
The ring is in the style of Art Deco. Art Deco was an international decorative style than ran from 1919 to 1939. And I suspect that this ring was made in 1930s - 1940s, which would also co-inside with the Great Depression.
With the advent of new technology in the 1920s an effort began to take shape to create a standardized round cut diamond. The old European diamond began to "transition" to what some call early modern cuts or early American cuts. Transitional cut diamonds are most often seen in jewelry from the 1930s to the 1940s. The modern round brilliant was fully standardized in the early 1950s with 57 facets.
The inside of the ring is marked for metal purity and the manufacture's trademark. The ring is stamped BRIDALWREATH 15755. On the other side of the shank is stamped 14-18K and a crown inside a C. Bridal wreath was a registered trademark for Abel Bros & Co. They were based out of New York and have been in business since 1915. The Crown inside a C is the maker's mark of Caron Freres (Brothers). They were located in Montreal, Quebec. They would have sold jewellery that may have been produced by other manufacturers.
The natural diamond in the ring measures approximately 3.4 mm round and is estimated to weigh 0.15 cts. The diamond is original to the ring, and the prongs still hold the diamond securely.
The diamond is set in an illusion setting, which is a setting that makes the diamond appear larger than it really is. The diamond and the top of the ring is made out of white gold (14K) and the shank is made out of yellow gold (18K). This is very typical of the time period.
