Antique Watch Fob / Cornish Pixie Pendant / Devon Pixie Watch Fob / Banded Agate Pendant

This lovely double sided fob features a banded agate stone on one side, and a Cornish or Devon pixie backed with Roman glass to give shine and iridescence to his features.

Cornish Pixies are mischievous, tiny folkloric beings from Cornwall, England, known for being helpful but tricky, often leading people astray or playing pranks like lifting them by the ears, though they're also associated with good luck if treated kindly.
Devon pixies are mischievous, tiny, humanoid folklore figures from Devon, England, known for leading travellers astray ("pixy-led") but also for rewarding kindness and bringing blessings, often appearing as small, rags-wearing beings near stones, streams, and moors, with their legends blending with general fairy mythology. They're described as playful, sometimes appearing as lights, and while generally harmless, they'd punish those who disrespected them. 

Well this pixie was very much treated kindly and not disrespected, by the age of the fob he is in a very good condition. He is playing the lute often seen as a sign of temptation or seduction.

The fob is made out of a base metal and may have at one time had a light gold plating. This was common for jewelry made in the late 1920s or early 1930s, especially for pieces that have lived through the Great Depression. People could still live a life of luxury with affordable pieces that they can cherish and pass down to their loved ones.

The banded agate is in remarkable condition. It is made out of translucent orange agate and alternating bands of brown and white chevrons. Were it cut the other way, this is the same material that cameos would be carved out of - taking advantage of the alternative bands of colour to add interest and dimension to the cameo. 

Banded Agate is a beautiful, layered variety of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) known for its distinct, colorful stripes formed by silica-rich fluids depositing layers in rock cavities, often volcanic. It's valued for grounding, stability, and emotional balance, symbolizing life's experiences and growth with its Earthy tones and unique patterns. 

The fob measures 1.25 inches in length and 1.0 inch wide. Although it does not have a bail on the top - I can add one free of charge, but it would be a gold-tone bail and it won't match the bronze patina of the fob.
