Edwardian Enamel Locket / Engraved Gold Filled Locket / Engraved Locket
This lovely gold filled locket tells quite the romantic story. I loved the engraved back and the lovely enamel front.
Enamel lockets were a very popular jewelry item as you were able to carry around the photos of your loved ones wherever you go. Remember this is from a time where you couldn't just open your phone and see a photo of your loved ones.
There is some slight damage to the blue and black enamel on the front of the locket and the price has been adjusted to reflect this. On the back it is fully engraved and I love the image that is engraved on it.
There is a "V" shaped road and two different set of footprints. But at the crossroads where the footprints meet it just stops. This shows the meeting of lovers.
Around the path are grapes and grape leaves. Grapes and grape leaves have many symbolic meanings and are associated with a variety of myths, legends, and traditions. The grape tree, fruit, and leaves are symbols of life, wealth, fertility, and prosperity. Grape leaves represent plenty, freedom and rebirth.
The locket opens up and reveals a place where you can put two photos into it. The lockets also has the original frames which is often lost or damaged in antique lockets. The red backing is a red cardboard.
The locket measures 1.25 inches by 1.0 inch. If you include the gold filled ring at the top of the locket it measures 1.75 inches in length.
