Onyx is a protective stone worn when facing adversaries in battles of conflicts of all kinds, or while hurrying down a dark street late at night. In classical ceremonial magic, the image of the head of the god Mars or a figure of the hero Hercules was engraved on onyx and carried for courage.

This Art Deco ring has an onyx that is engraved with parallel lines that play with the light. The lines are a shiny glossy finish where as the rest of the oval onyx stone is a matte finish. In the centre is a single cut diamond set in a white gold marquise setting.
The onyx is set in 10K Yellow gold setting. The ring is hallmarked on the inside of the shank for metal and manufacturer trademark. The trademark is a key symbol however I have not been able to identify the manufacturer.
The onyx is a large oval that measures 20mm x 15mm.
The best way to clean an onyx is to wipe it clean with a moist cloth. It is not recommended to use any sort of ultrasonic cleaners or ammonia as the stones may be porous and therefore might absorb chemicals, even soap, which can build up inside the stone, causing discolouration.
The ring is currently a size 7.25 US and can be sized.
