An old European–cut diamond or "Old Euro Cut" has a round shape featuring 58 large facets and a small circle in the center (the open culet). The majority of these stones were cut by hand between 1890 and the 1930s. This was the primary diamond shape used in the Art Deco Era. The open cult was by design, as back in the 1800s it was thought that a diamonds fire and brilliance emanated from the bottom and radiated outward. Now modern science and diamond cutting realize that it is the refraction of light and how it travels through the stone.
This ring is set with five (5) Old European cut Diamonds. The largest is in the centre and it is a round cut that measures 3.4mm in width. The ring is set with approximately 0.45 cts of diamonds in platinum. The rest of the shank is 18K Yellow Gold.
Platinum is very strong and durable and is a noble metal and it is extremely resistant to tarnishing and corrosion. It is also very strong and will hold your diamonds secure in it's setting.
This lovely antique ring is circa 1920s and it is still as stunning and beautiful as the day it was first manufactured.
The ring is stamped for metal purity and manufacturer's hallmark however it is partially obscured. Slightly above the stamp you are able to see PT 18 ct.
