Antique shaker Locket / Double Sided Glass Locket

A shaker locket is a type of transparent, openable pendant necklace—similar to a floating locket or shadow box pendant—that lets loose items shift and move freely inside a sealed chamber. Unlike traditional lockets that snap or hinge open like a book, shaker lockets typically use a tiny screw-top lid or a removable screw frame.

This lovely locket is in fantastic condition given it's age, the locket opens by twisting the screw bail at the top and is threaded for security. The two glass panels are in excellent condition and there are no chips or cracks.

The design of the locket has an "X" shaped motif featured on the side of the locket and is commonly referred to in jewelry design as a criss-cross ribbon motif, crossover band. In traditional estate and vintage jewelry, the X represents a tied ribbon and was popularized during the Victorian and Edwardian era. It symbolizes unity, remembrance, and attachment and was frequently used on the edges of lockets, bracelets and brooches.

The locket is round in shape and measures approximately 1 inch in diameter.

The locket does not test as gold filled or silver, and may be a base metal.
