This Art Deco ring was designed and crated to give the look of fine jewellery without the added cost. The ring is in the style of Art Deco. Art Deco was an international decorative style than ran from 1919 to 1939. And I suspect that this ring was made in 1930s - 1940s, which would also co-inside with the Great Depression.
The ring is gold filled, and the stone that is in the centre of the onyx, is not a diamond, but paste which was popular in the period. Paste is a special type of cut glass which emulates a variety of gemstones. In antique jewellery, lead glass was most commonly used, since the denser the material, the higher the refractive index and the greater the dispersion.
Onyx is a very desired gemstone and some cultures believed that this jewel could reduce stress and repel negative energies. In fact, people in the Middle East would call it the ‘worry stone’ and rub it between their fingers when experiencing conflicting emotions.
The ring is stamped on the inside of the shank. It is marked 1/30-14K RGP.
RG means rolled gold. It's along the lines of "gold filled" or plated. The 1/30th has to be there to denote the percentage of the object that is actually 14k gold. Basically, a thin sheet of 14k gold was rolled out to be very thin. Think of it as some thickness of gold leaf. Then it was affixed to the outer surface of a different, non-gold base metal. It's usually attached via heating. Kind of like "gold leaf coating" on a more common base metal. The 1/30 means that the weight of the gold is about 1/30th the weight of the total amount of metal.
The shank is a bit bent, however it is not noticeable when worn. The price does reflect the wear. However overall this ring is in great condition for a ring that is almost 100 years old.
