This stunning ring is a lovely vintage statement ring, It is composed of five (5) vintage garnet and glass triplet stones with single cut white sapphire stones.

What's a garnet and glass triplet?  Well, If you're purchasing antique or vintage  jewelry, watch out for the infamous garnet-and-glass gemstones as they are extremely convincing. The pavilion and most of the crown consists of glass. This glass can have almost any colour: red for ruby, blue for sapphires, green for emerald. A thin slice of natural garnet, usually red, is fused by heat, pressure, or (less convincingly) glue to the crown's center. The colour red sounds like you should be able to pick these out a mile away, right? Actually, well-done pieces show no red colour, face up, and no eye-visible demarcation between the glass and the garnet. 

Furthermore, the garnet provides durability, high luster, brilliance, and even some natural-looking inclusions when magnified. Once placed in a setting, these excellent forgeries could pass all but the most thorough examinations.

Garnet and glass doublets / triplets were first commonly used around 1850 and were popular into the early 1900s. That is why they are often seen in antique jewellery. 

This band has wonderful colour and is paired with eight (8) small single cut diamonds. The colour of the blue stones are so good that  it fooled me until I looked at it carefully. The ring is set in yellow gold (unmarked) but tests as 10K yellow gold.
