Onyx and Marcasite Statement Ring

Onyx is a protective stone worn when facing adversaries in battles of conflicts of all kinds, or while hurrying down a dark street late at night. In classical ceremonial magic, the image of the head of the god Mars or a figure of the hero Hercules was engraved on onyx and carried for courage.

The small stones set into the silver that look like diamonds are marcasite. The Incas famously used highly polished marcasite and pyrite to craft ornate mirrors, plates, and decorative items. According to legend, it was also one of Cleopatra's favorite gemstones, with Egyptian royalty cherishing its lustrous, sun-like energy.

Marcasite is most famous for its popularity during the Victorian era. When Prince Albert died in 1861, Queen Victoria entered a long period of mourning and wore strictly muted, subdued jewelry. Marcasite served as a perfect, understated alternative to opulent diamonds. In the 1920s it re-emerged as a gem of choice in the Art Deco jewelry. 

This ring is an Art Deco reproduction and is a great everyday ring to wear. 

The ring is made out of sterile silver, and it is marked on the inside of the shank for metal purity and manufacturer's trademark. The shank is marked 925 and CW. No information is found on the manufacturer.

The onyx is oval and measures 16mm x 13mm, and the centre has five (5) rose cut marcasite stones that measure 1mm round. The oval onyx and marcasite are bezel set so it is very secure in the setting.
