Garnet Belcher Set Ring / 10K Gold and Red Garnet Ring / Rose Cut Garnet Ring

The belcher style originated in the 1800's and became a popular style. Similar to a “gypsy” ring style, the difference is the the center stone is held by prongs which are cut out of the shank.

The shape of the prongs cut out of the setting give a flower like appearance. This ring is set with a vibrant red and juicy garnet. The gold ring is such a smooth buttery yellow gold and it is a beautiful contrast to the red garnet.

The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. ... Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds. Reg garnets were often given to sailors or to travellers as they were believed to ensure a safe return. Today, garnet is known as the official birthstone of January. Although the stone is no longer gifted to ensure a safe return, it is used as a symbol of love and continued happiness.

The ring is hallmarked with the maker's mark and the gold purity. It is marked 10K. I have not uncovered any information on the manufacturer.
