Onyx Filigree Ring / Antique Onyx Ring / Onyx and Diamond Filigree Ring / Art Deco Ring

This beautiful onyx and diamond ring has a wonderful border in filigree worked yellow gold. The centre of the ring is a single cut diamond that is set in white gold. The diamond has an illusion setting that makes the diamond appear larger than it really is. The illusion setting gives the impression that it is a larger marquise setting.

Surrounding the diamond is an oval onyx stone. The contrast between the black and white is remarkable. Onyx is thought to increase regeneration, happiness, intuition, instincts. Onyx is also thought to help to change bad habits.

The onyx is set in a yellow gold filigree border. Derived from the Latin word filum ("thread"), filigree is an ancient art form that has been appreciated as far back as 2500 B.C.E. Twisted and formed to closely resemble lace, filigree refers to the openwork design of an exquisitely entwined bouquet of fine silver or gold. Although creating filigree is a specialized skill for the present-day jeweler, in ancient times this completely handcrafted technique was a customary skill of all jewelers. At it height in fashion in the early 1900s the intricate designs was often found in jewellery and engagement rings.

The ring is hallmarked and trademarked on the inside of the ring. The manufacturer's trademark is a C in a circle. I have not been able to identify the maker.

The ring is also marked 10K. The ring is currently a size 7.25 (Can be sized)
