Diamonds were scarce during the war years of world war I and engagement rings from this era often featured the diamonds which they could find or older diamonds taken from older pieces.
This ring features a brilliant cut diamond set in an illusion setting, with a yellow gold band. On the shoulders there is wonderful floral details that have such a romantic feel to it. The diamond and the illusion setting is done in 14K White gold.
All diamonds are natural earth mined.
An illusion setting is a prong setting designed to make a diamond look bigger than it actually is. This is accomplished by a ring of metal surrounding the girdle of the diamond that is often bright cut. This ring diffuses the outline of the stone causing it to look larger.
The inside of the ring is hallmarked with metal purity and with the maker's trademark. The ring is hallmarked on the inside of the shank as: BRIDALWREATH 70711 14-18K
This is typical of the period. The 14K is the white gold, and the 18K is the yellow gold shank. 70711 is the style number.
