Art Deco, sometimes referred to as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewelry, fashion, cars, movie theatres, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes held in Paris in 1925. Art Deco works are symmetrical, geometric, streamlined, often simple, and pleasing to the eye.
And this ring is no exception as it is truly pleasing to the eye.
The centre diamond measures 3.8mm round and is estimated to weigh 0.22 cts. There are eight (8) additional single cut diamonds. This gives the ring a total estimated carat weight of 0.30 cts.
The ring is hallmarked on the inside of the shank for metal purity and maker's hallmark. Inside of the ring is stamped from left to right: G.M. Co / 14 - 18K / Crown inside a C
The Crown inside a C is the maker's mark of Caron Freres (Brothers). They were located in Montreal, Quebec and they founded their business in 1900 and had a large manufacturing facility at 233-239 Bleury Street, and produced enamelled spoons, crested brooches, and jewellery. They went out of business in the 1930s. They would be a jewellery manufacturer. The G.M Co is a Montreal jeweller that was most likely GAGE Matthew of Kingston. They were acquired and bought by Birks.
There is a sweet inscription on the inside of the ring: AH to TJ 19-7-40. This defines the age of the ring to during World War 2.
This ring is made out of yellow and white gold and in this ring it is beautifully blended together.
The top of the ring measures 7.5 mm (width) and 14 mm (length). The sides of the ring tapers down - the bottom shank is fairly thin.
Ring Size: 6.5 US
Item Weight: 1.57 g
