Vintage Engagement Ring / Past Present Future Engagement / Mid Century Engagement Ring

$720.00
SKU RIN-26-0006

This stunning engagement ring tells quite the story found in its distinctive features. The ring is set with a beautiful transitional cut diamond and is set in 18K white gold.

White gołd became widely popular in the 1920s as a more affordable, durable alternative to platinum, especially during World War I when platinum was needed for military use, with the Art Deco era boosting its demand for its sleek, modern look.

The central diamond in the ring measures 4mm round and is estimated to weigh 0.25 cts. The ring is further enhanced with an additional two (2) single cut diamonds and are estimated to weigh 0.02 cts. The total estimated carat weight is 0.27 cts.

A Transitional Cut Diamond is a rare, vintage diamond cut from the 1920s-1940s, bridging the gap between the antique Old European Cut (OEC) and the modern Round Brilliant Cut (RBC), featuring a unique blend of vintage charm with enhanced sparkle, typically identified by a larger table

Primarily cut between the 1920s and 1940s, during a period of evolving diamond cutting technology. The round shape is the predecessor of the round brilliant cut of today but features 57-58 facets, similar to modern cuts, but with differences in depth and crown height. The distinctive facets also feature a larger table facet than older cuts.

For history lovers this ring also tells its origin story. It hails from a Canadian Jeweller Saunders Lorie & Co. They are a jewelry firm based in Toronto, Canada (196 Adelaide St. W. Toronto, ON) and they operated primarily from the late 1890s to the 1920s.

Some sources point to specific active years like 1897-1922, though trademark registration information suggests potential continued activity for "Lorie" brands until later decades. Their pieces are often vintage or antique and are identifiable by their specific maker's mark. The primary hallmark for Saunders Lorie & Co. is a key mark (the image of a key). This mark is typically found alongside the gold purity mark.

This ring is stamped with the manufacturer's trademark, the style number of the ring and the gold purity stamp. The ring is stamped 18K (Key Symbol) LORIE. On the other side of the shank it is stamped 571LL27.
