$60.00
SKU OTH-25-0003

Nova Scotia is renowned for its picturesque lighthouses, with several achieving iconic status. Peggy's Point Lighthouse at Peggy's Cove is arguably the most famous, often called the most photographed lighthouse in Canada. Situated in the charming fishing village of Peggy's Cove, this lighthouse is a quintessential Nova Scotia landmark. It was first lit in 1915 and is known for its classic red and white design and its location on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Atlantic.

Peggy's Cove is famous for its picturesque scenery, including a iconic lighthouse, rugged coastline, and active fishing village. The area is known for its dramatic seascapes, large granite rocks, and historic charm, attracting visitors worldwide.

In 1860, a petition from George Garrison, Sr. and other inhabitants of St. Margarets Bay, praying for the establishment of a beacon light at the east point of the bay, was read in the House of Assembly of Nova Scotia. No immediate action was taken on the request, but the Board of Works finally did award a $1,690 contract on June 20, 1867 to Murphy and Lawlor to build a lighthouse on Peggy’s Point. While many refer to the lighthouse on Peggy’s Point as Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, it has always been called Peggy’s Point Lighthouse.

The pendant features a 1992 Canadian Coin Quarter (25 Cents) featuring the iconic Peggy's Cove Lighthouse in Nova Scotia. This provincial quarter also showcases Queen Elizabeth II on the other side, making it a must-have for any coin collector or Canadian enthusiast. The coin was issued for the 125th anniversary of the lighthouse being built.

The top of the pendant is silver.
