Spectacular Diamond Edwardian / Art Deco Engagement Ring / Old European Cut Diamond

$950.00
SKU RIN-25-0013

Regardless if you are long time lover of antique Jewellery or just a recent admirer of antique diamonds - this ring will leave you speechless. I personally can't stop staring at this chunky diamond cut. For those who are recent lovers of Old Mine and Old European cut you might be wondering why they are so special. Well don't worry - I got you covered!

As you might guess, Old European cut diamonds are cut in a style developed in Europe and popular from 1890 to 1930. If you find an antique ring with a round diamond from this period, it very likely features an old European cut, often abbreviated as "OEC."

Earlier diamonds typically received what is known as an "old mine cut," while later ones were cut as the well-known modern round brilliant. This natural diamond is probably cut in the early 1900s.

The biggest visual difference between an old European cut and the modern round brilliant cut diamond, is that the old cut favors dispersion or "fire," the multi-colored flashes of light from within the stone. On the other hand, the modern round brilliant maximizes sparkle and brilliance, which creates the signature black-and-white pattern you see play across the surface.

These beautiful diamonds were all hand cut by artisans to bring out the fire in candle light. This is truly an amazing stone.  However the brilliant artistry does not stop in the diamond - just look at the fine filigree (lace like) gold band that embraces it. The ring has such a delicate and romantic look with flowers and scrolls that you will make you instantly want to say "YES"!

The ring is crafted in 14K Yellow and White Gold. The white gold surrounds the diamond, and the yellow gold is the shank.

The ring is marked on the inside of the shank for metal purity and may have also included the manufacturer's hallmark. However with time, the hallmarks have mostly worn away and all that is visible is a CH 14. The CH would have indicated the manufacturer trademark, however I could not find any information on the company.

The diamond has a diameter of 3.4 mm and is estimated to weigh 0.25 cts. Please note that the antique cut of the diamond does stand prominent above the girdle of the ring as antique cut diamonds often have a high crown.

Ring Weight: 1.82 g
Ring Size: 5.5 US (Ring sizing available for an additional fee)

This ring is such a find! The diamond is so outstanding and it's well set in the gold. There are 6 prongs that hold it in place, and it's ready for another love story. Let that chapter of love be you.
